Paper Handling & Printer Safety

• Jams and Rollers: Thin papers like napkins or tissue can get caught in your printer rollers. Always tape the edges down securely to a standard piece of copy paper, or use a carrier sheet. 
• No Guarantees: Printers have varying feed mechanisms. There is always a risk that delicate papers might tear inside the machine.
• Specialty Paper Thickness: If you are using pre-bought printable decoupage sheets (like rice or mulberry paper), ensure your printer is set to handle heavier or specialty paper weights. 

 

Ink & Mod Podge Bleeding

• Inkjet vs. Laser: If you are using an inkjet printer, the water-based ink will likely bleed, smear, or run as soon as you apply wet decoupage glue. 
• Fixatives Are Mandatory: You must spray printed inkjet pages with a fixative or clear acrylic sealer before decoupaging. Apply light, even coats and let it dry completely. 
• Laser Printers: Laser printer toner is heat-fused, meaning it typically won't run when exposed to wet adhesives, making it the preferred method for decoupage.
